Welcome to our Blog

In March of 2011 my wife and I quit or jobs, cashed in our chips and left the big city behind to move to our farm hidden away in northeast Georgia. These are our observations on the news of the day and our adventures in homesteading, becoming self reliant, prepping and living a simpler, more fulfilling life.

The Homestead Report

We have been busy this past week trying to prep the garden for early spring. To fix the grass problem we had this past growing season we mowed down the garden and covered a 40' x 50' section with 6mm black plastic sheet. Total planting area will be less but we have learned a bit and this spring we will plant in a more efficient way, we should get a lot more produce.

We also set up a mulch pen, after a bit of time we'll get some benefits from it.
Although we were happy with this years garden (our first) it was, compared to others.... plain pathetic. We would have starved if we were truly counting on it to support a major part of our diet.  I didn't put in the effort required, lesson learned.
