I have received my first 2 issues of Countryside and it is now my favorite magazine. It covers many aspects of the "self sufficent" and "self reliant" lifestyle that would be of great benefit to preppers. It also deals with these in a more realistic and cost effective way compared to some of the similar publications. Their website has a generous amount of info that may be of interest as well.
COUNTRYSIDE is the truly original country magazine (established 1917) serving that branch of the Voluntary Simplicity movement seeking greater self-reliance (homesteading), with emphasis on home food production. This includes gardening, small-scale livestock, cooking, food preservation, resource conservation, recycling, frugality, money management, alternative energy, old-time skills, home business, and
much more.
COUNTRYSIDE features reader-written personal experiences and photos straight out of family albums, making each issue just like a long letter from friends who are living the good life, beyond the sidewalks. http://www.countrysidemag.com/
MOTHER EARTH NEWS is the guide to living — as one reader stated — “with little money and abundant happiness.” Every issue is an invaluable guide to leading a more sustainable life, covering ideas from fighting rising energy costs and protecting the environment to avoiding unnecessary spending on processed food. You’ll find tips for slashing heating bills; growing fresh, natural produce at home; and more. MOTHER EARTH NEWS helps you cut costs without sacrificing modern luxuries. http://www.motherearthnews.com
I have been a subscriber to Mother Earth News for several years and look forward to every issue. It is a fantastic resource for the "self reliant" lifestyle. This magazine and their website offers lots of info preppers will find useful. To be honest some of their content seems geared towards the more affluent among us but it is still the most popular magazine of this type and with good reason.
Another one of my favorites, It's content falls between Countryside and Mother Earth News. Can't find a website for them but I did find their facebook page. It is currently published bi-annually and I'm hoping they go to 6 issues per year in the near future. Of note, Nancy Tappan is the Editor and was the wife of the late Mel Tappan who was a very well respected and influential leader in the Survivalist movement in the 60's/70's and an oft published firearms expert.
